Whose Side Are You On?

Last night, the Boston Red Sox won the 2018 World Series by beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in Game 5 at Dodger Stadium. The result wasn’t in much doubt as each pitch and inning progressed through the night, and though the hometown fans kept cheering for their team, it felt more like gratefulness for the season instead of inspiration to overcome their deficit. By the end of the night, it was extremely clear whose side the fans were on – either they loudly celebrated as their team hoisted the trophy or they quietly left the stadium, desiring the opposite outcome. Political Enemies

I once had dinner with a man who was soon-to-be assassinated by political opponents. Mr. Gamini Dissanayake, a Sri Lankan Opposition Leader, was also a founding patron of the English-vocational school where I was a teacher, and he invited our school administrator, his wife, and all of us teachers to his house for dinner and conversation back in the spring of 1991.
